Creating Your Content

Bringing Your Vision to Life

Now that you have your plan ready to go, it is time for the most exciting part: bringing your ideas to life! You have already done the hard work of thinking through your audience and your message. Now, you get to use the skills you have been developing to record and polish your content.

Remember, you do not need a Hollywood budget to be a great communicator. Whether you are filming in your backyard in Brampton or at a local park in Ottawa, your creativity is what matters most. If you need to "pretend" you are on a snowy mountain in the middle of July, go for it! We can all use our imaginations to support your vision as long as your message is clear and engaging.

Production Workflow: The "One-at-a-Time" Approach

To help you grow as a creator, I want you to try a specific workflow. Instead of filming everything at once, please complete your three videos one at a time: Plan, Record, Edit, and Reflect.

By editing your first video before you film your second, you will notice little things you might want to change in your performance or your lighting. This "loop" is exactly how professional YouTubers and TikTokers improve their craft!

Step 1: Record and Edit in Canva

Use the Canva Video Editor to put your clips together.

  • Adapt for your Audience: Make sure your tone and non-verbal cues (like hand gestures and eye contact) match what your viewers expect.
  • Vary Your Style: Create three versions of your videos (short, medium, and long) to see how different platforms require different pacing.
  • Polish Your Work: Use Canva’s tools to add transitions or overlays that help connect your ideas and keep your audience focused.

Step 2: The Reflective Screencast

Once your videos are finished, record a quick screencast (you can use Canva’s "Present and Record" feature or a screen recorder of your choice). In this video, "walk me through" your work:

  • Point out where you improved your speaking style compared to your earlier assignments.
  • Explain why you chose certain visual aids or music to influence your audience.
  • Identify one specific skill you want to keep practicing in the next unit.

Submission Checklist

When you are finished, please download your files from Canva and upload the following to our Google Classroom:

  1. Three Video Sets: The Short, Medium, and Long versions of your content.
  2. The Process Screencast: Your video reflection on your growth and next steps.

You have a unique voice, and I cannot wait to see how you use it. It is okay to try new things and see what works best!
