Your Personal Growth Portfolio: The Highlight Reel

Your Personal Growth Portfolio: The Highlight Reel

Reflecting on Your Journey

You have put in an incredible amount of work throughout this course. From analyzing Shakespeare to creating social media profiles, you have moved through the creative process time and time again. You have set goals, made plans, and reflected on your progress.

Now, it is time to take a step back and celebrate how far you have come! This portfolio is your chance to consolidate everything you have learned about yourself as a communicator before we move into our final tasks.

Your Production Steps

Step 1: Review and Categorize

Before you start recording, take a trip down memory lane.

  • Gather Your Goals: Open your past assignments and copy all the personal goals you set for yourself into a Google Doc.
  • Organize Your Success: Group these goals and your favorite pieces of work into four categories: Reading, Speaking, Writing, and Media.
  • Spot the Patterns: Look at what you struggled with at the start of the year versus what you can do now. You might be surprised by your own growth!

Step 2: Create Your Portfolio Video

Using the Canva Video Editor, create a "Highlight Reel" of your progress. This isn't just a list of assignments; it’s a story of your development. In your video, please discuss:

  • Your Best Work: Show off a piece of work from each of the four categories that you are particularly proud of.
  • The "How-To" of You: What is the same about how you approach a writing task versus a speaking task? What is different?
  • Your Secret Weapon: What strategies do you use to stay focused and perform your best when things get tough? (e.g., "I use a timer to stay on track," or "I always read my work out loud to check the flow").

Step 3: Final Polish in Canva

  • Visual Aids: Use Canva’s screen recording or "Present and Record" features to show your work on screen while you talk about it.
  • Be Authentic: You don't need a script for this—just speak from the heart about what you’ve learned.
