You’re a Bookstagrammer! Video Diary

    • You’re a Bookstagrammer!

      Building Your Digital Book Club

Now that you’ve chosen your novel, it is time to share your journey! A great Bookstagrammer doesn’t just say if a book is "good" or "bad"; they dive deep into the writing, the characters, and the themes to help their audience understand the story's soul.

In this assignment, you will keep a video diary of your reading progress. This is the perfect time to show off your growing "academic" vocabulary and your ability to spot the clever ways authors build their worlds.

      Your Production Workflow

Step 1: Applying Your Shakespeare Survival Skills

Before you start your first video, revisit your Shakespeare Survival Guide. Even though you aren't reading a play, those pre-reading strategies still apply!

      • The AI Boost: Use a Chatbot to identify potential major themes or historical contexts for your specific novel.
      • Set the Stage: Use your research to make predictions about how the author might use certain literary devices or text features to hook the reader.

Step 2: The Video Diary Series

Record five video diaries while reading. Try to space these out evenly (e.g., every 50–60 pages) at "sensible" stopping points, like the end of a major chapter or a big plot twist.

In each "episode," make sure to cover:

      • The Recap: A quick, engaging summary of what just happened. Keep it punchy!
      • The Deep Dive: Explain how a theme is growing or how a character is changing. Don't just tell us what happened; tell us why it matters.
      • Vocabulary Spotlight: Identify 2 or 3 "rare" or sophisticated words from the section. Explain why you think the author chose those specific words instead of simpler ones.
      • The Writer's Mirror: Identify one writing technique the author used that you want to copy in your own work, and one habit or style you’d rather avoid.

      Step 3: Polish in Canva

Since you are a "Bookstagrammer," your videos should look the part!

      • Style Matters: Use Canva Video to add a consistent "vibe" to your diaries. Maybe use a specific filter, background music, or text overlays for your "Vocabulary Spotlight."
      • Direct Delivery: Practice speaking directly to the camera with confidence. Use those non-verbal cues we’ve been working on to keep your "followers" interested.

      Submission Checklist

Please upload the following to our Google Classroom:

      1. The Bookstagram Series: Your 5 video diaries (either as a single edited reel or 5 separate clips).
      2. The Glossary: A brief Google Doc listing the 10–15 new words you identified across all five videos and their meanings.

Reading is a conversation between you and the author. I can't wait to hear your half of the story!
