Portfolio

In this assignment, you will collect examples of the skills you have developed throughout the course and present them in a professional package. Imagine that you’re trying to land a job with a small content creator or local business to create communications for their target audience. Consider where people might find you, such as:

  • Social media/YouTube
  • Search engines (Google)
  • Flyers/print publications
  • Podcasts

Identify 1-3 small content creators or businesses in a niche you’re passionate about. You can choose a business that’s not local, as long as you’re considering how to apply your skills in the real world.

Steps

  1. Collect your best video assignments across a range of video types (talking head, skit/play, etc.).
  2. Add citations to at least one of your essays.
  3. Compile your work into an attractive package that highlights your value (this is intentionally open-ended).
  4. Create a screencast or other video explaining each item's inclusion, your objectives, and process insights.

Citations

Citations provide verification for your claims. Different systems like MLA and APA are common in Ontario schools, but they both include:

  1. A page at the end of your document listing all your research sources. This is called “Works Cited” in MLA format and “References” in APA — akin to a “bibliography.”
  2. In-text citations in your essay that guide readers to the correct entry.

Watch a YouTube video on MLA citations, a commonly used format in English, and practice creating them. Have your work double-checked by an LLM, then verify their work.
