What Makes a Good Profile?

The way people communicate has changed in recent years. Producing professional-looking videos used to require expensive equipment and a team of people. Now, you can achieve similar results with a couple of hundred dollars in lights from Amazon, your phone, and some free software.

The Attention Economy

The biggest companies in the world, like Google/YouTube and Facebook/Instagram, are all focused on grabbing your attention. Apple is selling you the tools to engage with their content.

Assignment

  1. Identify Promoters: Find 3 to 5 people promoting their businesses or employer’s business on YouTube or across Facebook/Instagram/TikTok.

    • Consider future career paths. If you're interested in programming, medicine, law, etc., there are many content creators you could learn from.
    • If you're considering trades, choose examples relevant to your career goals.
  2. Analyze Their Appeal: Identify things that made them stand out to you. Be specific. Don’t just say "they have a good personality"; note if they use humor, etc.

    • Aim for achievable goals like "tells at least one joke every 30 seconds."
  3. Set Personal Goals: Create a detailed list of at least three goals for:

    • Presentation: The way you speak and present yourself.
    • Content Writing: The writing of the content you’re presenting.
    • Video Production: The way you film and edit your content.
